I use autodesk Fusion 360 to design all of my fixtures. I am lucky enough to qualify for an educational licence. I have tried other CAD software like sketch up but since its transition to being an online app, its capabilities are now severely diminished.
For me, fusion 360 is the best. It’s a desktop app and has an easy to understand layout. most importantly, it fits my workflow. I like to sketch my designs out first and fusion 360's ability to work in a 2d space first is helpful. After I have finished sketching the design, I can then extrude the sketch into 3 dimensions and export it to an STL file for publishing.

To bring my creations into the physical world by using a 3d Printer. The capabilities of 3D printers has been proven time over. from building organs to houses, 3D printers are really diverse and well covered. This brings the price down cutting out all of the expensive costs of bringing a product to market. I print my designs on a second hand Maker select MK2 And typically use readily available generic filament. The good thing about my 3D printer is that it’s capable of using many types of filament, like wood and metal look filament.
